Ms. Connie Chung Joe is the Executive Director of the Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC), where she oversees the organization’s $1M+ operating budget and 15 staff. KAFSC is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 with the mission to support and strengthen Korean American families in the greater Los Angeles area through counseling, education and social services. KAFSC specializes in culturally and linguistically appropriate services that address mental health, family violence, and acculturation stresses faced by many Korean immigrant families.
Prior to joining KAFSC, Connie was a public interest lawyer for seven years. She worked at the Housing Rights Center in Los Angeles where she handled fair housing cases involving discrimination based on race, ethnicity, disability, and familial status. Prior to that she was a staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union in Chicago, Illinois, where she specialized in immigrant’s rights, women’s rights, police misconduct, post 9/11 profiling, free speech, and other civil rights cases. Connie received her BA in Spanish and International Relations from USC and her JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
