Edward C. Kang is an experienced counselor in a number of aspects of transactional, corporate and real estate law. He complements his legal representation with a practical commercial orientation developed through significant business experience.
Mr. Kang offers sophisticated counsel to a broad spectrum of clients including medium-sized businesses, financial institutions and investors. He provides expertise in matters throughout the life cycle such as formation, commercial agreements, financings and investments, acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, employment issues, governance and general operations.
In his real estate practice, Mr. Kang draws upon significant experience on commercial and residential matters including leasing, sales and acquisitions, investments and restructurings.
Mr. Kang previously practiced at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York, where he represented clients ranging from newly-formed businesses to Fortune 500 companies to private equity firms and financial institutions. While at Davis Polk, Mr. Kang was also a member of its Tax Department.
In addition, Mr. Kang has practical experience in the asset management, brokerage/leasing, investment banking and private equity aspects of the real estate industry. Mr. Kang was a Vice President of Equity Office, a portfolio company of The Blackstone Group, where he was responsible for asset management of its 4.5 million square foot office and retail portfolio in New York City. Mr. Kang was also a Managing Director at Studley, the leading global commercial real estate services firm focused on tenant representation in leasing transactions. Previously, Mr. Kang was a Principal of Lehman Brothers’ real estate private equity group and a member of Lehman’s investment banking group.
Mr. Kang has presented seminars at the New York City Bar Association and The Real Estate Board of New York. He is a licensed real estate broker in New York and a Trustee of The School for Strings.
