Sonny Hong has a diverse set of successful work experiences in investing, equity research, industry, entrepreneurship, and strategic consulting. He is currently a Portfolio Manager at Citi Principal Strategies, Citigroup’s internal hedge fund. Previously, he was the Co-PM of the TMT Special Situations group at Satellite Asset Management, an $8B NY-based hedge fund seeded by George Soros. Prior, he was the TMT Sector Head for the long/short, merger arbitrage, and activist strategies at Sandell Asset Management, a $7B NY-based hedge fund. Prior, he worked for AllianceBernstein, an $800B investment management firm, and was a #2 Institutional Investor ranked team member and an individually ranked research analyst.
Prior to his investment career, he worked at Microsoft in the CEO’s special forces strategy team that advised the senior management of the $10B Servers Platforms business unit in M&A, major strategic decisions, and IR guidance. He was also the CEO of interMarkets Software LLC, a company he founded during his days at Harvard Business School where he left school after recruiting his professor, prior-mentor from A.T. Kearney, and McKinsey Partner. His first job was at A.T. Kearney where he was a strategic consultant focusing on market entry strategies.
Sonny received his BA from Columbia College majoring in Political Science focusing on economic development policies of the four “Asian Tigers” and the reunification solutions of Korea. He was also the KSA President and one of the Directors of Student Enterprises. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School. Sonny enjoys snowboarding, basketball and traveling.
