As the Founding Director of the ONE FLUSHING community economic development center, John Choe empowers small business owners and local residents with innovative strategies that identify and leverage resources, advocate for policy reforms, and create economic opportunities for a strong, diverse, and sustainable community in Flushing, New York.
John Choe has extensive government and nonprofit experience, previously serving as Policy Director for the City Comptroller, Chief of Staff for District 20 in the New York City Council, Director of Operations at the New York City Department of Finance, Assistant Program Officer at the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and Research Associate at the Rent Guidelines Board.
Mr. Choe is also a longtime community activist who currently volunteers with the Flushing Interfaith Council, Flushing Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), and Flushing Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.
Mr. Choe graduated from Binghamton University as a New York State Regents Scholar, earned his Masters in Public Policy (MPP) at the University of Chicago as a Woodrow Wilson National Fellow in Public Affairs & International Relations, and studied urban planning as a Revson Fellow at Columbia University.
Mr. Choe has been recognized for his public service by the Fund for the City of New York, the Queens Courier, New York Newsday, the Coro New York Leadership Center, the Jewish Community Relations Council, Concerned African Americans of Flushing, and the Open Society Institute.
