In 2009, Mike Joo was promoted to Chief Operating Officer for Global Markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, giving him the responsibility of strategy and business support along with business supervision for the bank’s global sales and trading business across both equities and fixed income.
Before this, Mr. Joo was Managing Director and Head of North Asia Debt Capital Markets for Merrill Lynch, based in Hong Kong. In that capacity he was responsible for the marketing and execution of all Debt Capital Markets, Liability Management and Derivatives solutions in North Asia. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mike was Head of Asia Debt Capital Markets at Credit Suisse, where he spent nearly nine years in both Hong Kong and Korea focusing on capital markets and Korea investment banking transactions. Mike began his career at Goldman Sachs in New York and moved to Asia in 1997. Mike has led the execution of over US $50 billion of capital markets transactions in the global markets. He has especially been active in transactions for the Korean government and government-owned entities, and received the Finance Excellence Award from the Minister of Finance & Economy for his significant contributions to the Korean financial markets.
Mike was born in Korea and moved to the United States when he was seven years old. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from MIT. Mike is also one of the founding members of Red Mango in Korea and the US, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Red Mango USA.
