Phillip Chang, founder, president and chief executive officer of Yogurtland, opened the first
Yogurtland store in 2006. He had taken one of his stores from an earlier quick service concept and
converted it into a self-serve frozen yogurt and toppings bar. Drawing crowds from more than 50
miles away, Phillip saw how passionate people were about the flavors and assembling their own
cup of frozen yogurt.
After opening the first two stores, Phillip decided to franchise Yogurtland. And today, there are
roughly 250 stores operating in the United States, Australia, Mexico and Venezuela.
Desiring to build a company that was set apart, Phillip made it Yogurtland’s mission to value
quality above all else. He established a nine-member research and product development team,
whose responsibility is to search the globe for the best flavors and sources only the finest
Through his leadership, Yogurtland is recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in the
US. And, it has been celebrated as one of today’s best franchises by Franchise Business Review,
World Franchising Network, and International Franchise Association.
Phillip sits on the board of the Irvine Chamber of Commerce and Network of Korean American
Leaders. He is also a member of the President’s Advisory Council of Concordia University.
Phillip was born in South Korea and studied Math at So-Gang University. Before he founded
Yogurtland, he began his career in information technology as a systems analyst and eventually
started his own consulting group. In 2001, he ventured into food concepts with a beverage
company specializing in teas and boba.
